Major Gifts Officer

Position Overview

The Major Gifts Officer will secure funds for the Nueva School by managing a group of assigned, qualified donors, assuring that as many as possible are retained as continuing donors to the organization and are upgraded in their giving and involvement. S/he will report to the Director of Institutional Advancement.

Primary Responsibilities

The Major Gifts Officer will qualify donors. S/he will create individual goals for each person or family based on the donor's history of giving and the organization's knowledge of that donor's potential. The Officer will create a plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person. S/he will faithfully and on a timely basis execute that plan so individuals are retained, upgraded, and stewarded.

The Major Gifts Officer will create proposals and stewardship materials. S/he will create monthly reports as required by leadership that accurately reflect activity and performance. S/he will perform other major donor activities as may be required.

The Officer will develop, implement and lead a successful and integrated donor relations program that strategically targets all levels of giving as defined by the Development team, and ensures donors are acknowledged and recognized to strengthen their financial support for Nueva. This will include, but not be limited to the Annual Report, impact and endowment reports, gift acknowledgements, and invitations to events.

This is a full-time, salaried, benefited, 12-month position.

Position Qualifications

  • A track record of fundraising success in principal and major gift solicitation and also in some or all of annual giving, auctions, capital campaigns, and planned giving
  • Expert experience with CRM databases - Raiser’s Edge or comparable systems – and application software including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint or their equivalents
  • Detailed understanding and experience administering, processing, and supporting the complete fundraising lifecycle from relationship management, solicitation, and recognition in coordination with colleagues within and across departments (including for example the business, technology, communications, alumni, and human resources departments), vendors and partners as applicable, organization leadership, trustees, and volunteer leaders
  • Understanding of independent school communities and culture in a PK–12 environment
  • Experience leading and engaging all stakeholders — leadership, trustees, colleagues, parents, students, alumni, other donors, partners, and volunteers
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Active engagement in professional development and current on best practices
  • Personable, positive, helpful personality; customer-service mindset
  • Sensitivity, discretion, and a sense of humor
  • Maturity, excellent judgment, and emotional stability
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Ability to manage competing demands and adapt to frequent or unexpected changes
  • Trustworthy and loyal; demonstrated ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant postgraduate advancement experience
  • Bachelor’s degree

Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
